Louise was three when we moved from Seattle to Honolulu. In Hawaii she was called paakiki, or hard-headed. She got herself into a number of jams but always came out uscathed.She was also called Portagee, a term of endearment and although we were not wealthy in those years, Louise was looked upon as unusual with her Mainland trips, her dance skills, and her ease of both making friends and getting her friends into trouble.
