Thoughtful and Well-Written Book

I am a leader in an organization that works with Christian college students and recently borrowed this book to be used, along with many others, as a reference tool in a Christian apologetics seminar I was teaching. I had meant only to skim it and then add it to the stack of reference books, but after a few pages I decided to read it cover to cover. I must say that I truly enjoyed it. As a Christian who has read a number of books on the topic of apologetics (books that offer a reasoned defense for the Christian faith) I was surprised to encounter such a fresh and well-written perspective in this one. Rather than taking on a laundry list of questions and devoting only a few pages to each (as many of these books do), Dale and Sandy Larsen instead speak to seven popular misconceptions about Christianity and give a thoughtful, well-reasoned response to each "myth". The topics they choose are relevant, and deal more with the kinds of questions that I hear today on the college campuses I work at, rather than those of the previous generation. Their answers, of course, are not comprehensive. Many books and papers have been written on each of the topics and to give a thorough answer to the accusation that "Christianity is Unscientific," for example, requires much more than one chapter in a short book. For that same reason, I don't imagine that the truly skeptical will be won over by the book's content. But for someone looking for some help in thinking about these topics this book is a great starting place. Personally, I found it thoughtful, refreshing, and enjoyable to read. I'm sorry to learn that it is out of print--though I will most likely try to purchase a used copy, and maybe a few extra to give away to interested students.
