"Faith" is such a small word forced to carry so many big definitions including a religion, an encouraging spark, belief, confidence, understanding, or a relationship with a savior. Any two people could use the word "faith" in a conversation while intending at least two different meanings. Jack Coe conveys in "40 Days to Faith" that faith is not the be all and end all of spirituality, but a means to an end. In person, the evangelist-author comes across as a charmingly countrified raconteur and road-seasoned holy roller. In this book, Brother Coe suggests a mild-mannered patience as he methodically teaches that "there's a difference between believing in God and having faith in God," and helps the reader reflect on the awesomeness of a God who is both the definition of love and the demander of justice. Don't let the folksiness fool you. Jack Coe is a man who can attest to his own healing through faith from what was diagnosed as terminal cancer, and he knows that faith, like love, is an action and not a feeling. Evangelist Coe admonishes Christians to study the Bible thoroughly; that partnered with worship "in the Spirit" must also be worship in truth--a truth one can't know without study. I especially appreciate the "Day 21" topic, "Faith does NOT mean testing God." This is an area of personal challenge for me, to remember that when God rescues me from self-induced danger He is not extending an invitation to repeat my mistake. Summarizing, "40 Days to Faith" emphasizes that faith is a gift from God. Faith is not the mountaintop Christians seek, but it is the means with which God has graced us to get there. Our actions along that uphill road to glory are the evidence of our faith. Diane L. Harris Author of Stepping into the Light: You're a Christian, what now? [...]
