Large collection, easy to adapt.

This is one of the largest slow cooker collections I've found. There is a conversion table in the back and some basic tips in the introductions, but nothing about how to best select a slow cooker for your needs. It's assumed you already have one.The heart of the book is broken up into chapter catergoies: main dishes, side dishes, breads and treats, stew and chilies, soups, etc. For vegetarians, there's more than the usual bean-centric recipes, but you will have to hunt and peck -- some sort of symbol to make them stand out more would have been better.For those who wish to cut back on fat all you need to do is skip the butter or oil in the recipes that call for it. A lot don't even bother -- slow cooking doesn't require it unless they want you to brown meats before putting it in. You could bypass the fats by simply using nonstick cookware. There are a few tips in the introduction on how to limit or remove fat from selectiosn of meat, but the recipes do not include nutritional information. I think that would have been helpful.The ingredients used are pretty basic -- canned goods, basic spices, nothing overly exotic or extraordinary. Every page features one or two recipes and the opposite page is a color photo of one of them. There is some margin space for notes. Some of the recipes do list prep/cook times with the heading, others simply state the time somewhere in the directions. (I assume this is because these recipes come from the different companies or the back of packages and the editors just collected them without going through them too closely.) With so many recipes, I haven't been through them all, but so far so good... I'd give it a B+.
