Surprise hit - sensible garden tips all year 'round!
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 15 years ago
My mother passed this book along to me with a couple of other garden books she'd never found a use for, and I thought I'd skim it before dumping in a drop box. To my surprise, I love it! Every day of the year, Allison offers homey and sensible garden advice with a fireside-chat coziness (or, for the hotter months, an over-the-garden-fence neighbourliness). She mixes sayings, advice, trivia, and tips for the beginning gardener with a gentle humour that is never laugh-out-loud funny but will often bring a smile. I turn to this book so often - though I confess, more so in the winter when dreaming of the garden - that I've started writing small garden moments and milestones of my own in the margins to look back at year after year. Some of her entries may sound a little dated - they often refer to mail-order sources, and include mailing addresses, but I'm sure in many cases, you can just look up a website instead these days. The information itself is no less helpful or valuable. Whether you're just starting out or an experienced gardener, this is a great one to add to the bookshelf - or stash in the spare bathroom.
It is packed with interesting facts, tips and guidelines.
