I purchased this book intending to try my hand at making garden furniture. The book sat around unused for several years, until this Winter. My son enrolled in a carpentry class and came home looking for project ideas. Something other than a shelf or key rack he said...I went to the bookshelf where I pulled out several books on DIY woodworking and handed them to him - with the comment that I would reeeeeaaallly like a potting shelf, or a couple of adirondack chairs or bench, or a swing to hang under the deck overlooking the lake. He apparently was listening, because at the end of the school year he brought home a swing just like the one pictured. Hooray for me!!! I love it! He said it was easy to make and he enjoyed it. For the most part the designs are very simple, but seem quite sturdy - at least my swing is. (In fact my husband switched to a lighter chain than suggested, stating that what the plans called for was complete overkill.) I've made up a short list of furniture I'd like for the patio and plans are in the works to build a side table and a chair. This book offers plans for planters, decorative side tables that look like bird houses, benches, tables, chairs, plant stands, all kinds of simple garden furniture and decor that can be "dressed up" fairly simply (adding trim, cutting curved arms instead of angled, etc.)
