If you ever learn anything about Churchill ;it should be to never let failure discourage you.

There are bookshelves of books written about Churchill;and then there are all the books and other writings by Churchill himself;so what could be so great about this little tome? That is just the point.It covers most of the life of one ,if not the greatest figures of the 20th Century, in less than 200 pages.It zeros in on 274 ,really,separate things that happened to ,by,and with Churchill;and by doing this,we can see what it was that made him such a great person.His life could never be considered hard,or even to him difficult;but what he accomplished was amazing.It almost seems that he was born to succeed at whatever he tried;but while he had failures apleanty,he simply never let setbacks bother him in the least.If anything,he instinctly knew he was born to be great,and setbacks were only the slightest of inconveniences to be tolerated in his path to greatness. In spite of everything ,he did not really put on airs,he didn't have to.He was a giant among men ,and when something happened that most people would considered a failure;he simply turned to something else that showed he didn't deal with failure,but went on to even greater success. This was demonstrated when he took up serious writing,painting,dealing with seemingly impossible odds during the darkest days of WWII,difficulties with personal finances,relationships with world leaders,either friend or foe. When he confronted the mighty strength of Hitler at his peak of power,Churchill,proceeded to march on towards success as if Hitler was of no more importance than an inconvenience that he would defeat ,and without any doubt. Anyone wondering what made Churchill such a great figure in the 20th Century,and is looking for a short insight into what he was all about;will find this book an enlightning read. His gift of language ,like his other gifts was legendary.Many thought that he was overated and on a large scale or even a small scale,they challenged him ,and often to their own peril. One day in Parliament , a lady Politician decided to take him on with this put-down. "If you were my husband ,I'd put arsnic in your tea" Churchill casually replied; "If I were married to you;I'd gladly drink it." Another lesson in underestimating learned!!!

Thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to all British, ANZAC, and others who can remember this versatile statesman, brilliant statesman He is one of my heroes. I grew up with him as Prime Minister, in England and love reading, learning about him.
