Stay up to date (if this is an old review look for newer version)

Most of the questions are so fundamental that you wonder why they are asking such questions. However, you can be surprised by assuming that you know the answers. Do not wait for the test to catch you by surprise. Also, you never know who will be looking at the test, so you do not just want to pass. Decades ago, my first time through the military, I was confronted with a similar test to get in; I was lucky to find a good test book. It was not nearly as good as this one. However, I found a handful of facts that I thought I knew and found to be wrong. I do have to admit that before taking the test the first time, I had taken diesel mechanics in high school and worked nights as a plant maintenance mechanic. It helped immensely. Most of the questions you will be confronted with may not seem relevant to your goal. However, they all relate to your general all-around knowledge. Working through this book, I found that over the years, I have been using quickie shortcuts that work in real life, but I forgot the fundamentals taught in school. This book will reacquaint you with them. The chapter headings tell what you are about to be questioned on: Word Knowledge: Testing Your Vocabulary Paragraph Comprehension: understanding and a-n-a-l-y-z-i-n-g written concepts Mathematics Knowledge: counting on a variety of questions Arithmetic Reasoning: tracking word problems General Science: knowing about the world around you Auto and Shop Information: Nailing down the vehicle and workshop basics Mechanical and Comprehension: focusing on physics, mechanics, and work Electronics Information: amplifying your understanding of electronic principles Assembling Objects: figure out how things fit together There is an online supplement that helps you learn about at least a different way of taking the test. The book is full of helpful hints on how to approach the study and get the most out of it.
