A Little Bit of Everything

I bought this book immediately after touring the artifact exhibition. I'm glad I did. This book is a fascinating read, touching on everything from the planning to the building to the sinking and investigations. Merideth left very few stones unturned. I especially enjoyed the discussion of the "Californian" and how Lord and his crew may not have done anything wrong when their actions are seen in the context of the time. My only reservation is that there are entirely too many misspellings and grammatical errors, which reduce credibility. This is the revised version, but it looks like the editor didn't do his/her job. Along with the exhibition, this book turned me into a "Titanic" buff. Thank you, Lee Merideth.

Excellent Book on the Titanic!

I really enjoyed this book on the Titanic. Being a bit of a Titanic buff, I found new information with a human face that kept me engaged throughout. My biggest quibble with the book is that Meredith needed an editor who would tell him not to make plurals using apostrophes! LOL But overall this book presented the facts in a fast, concise format that I found quite interesting. A must for all Titanic buffs.

An excellent and concise overview of the Titanic story.

Meredith's book is a very useful, easy to use reference work onfacts about the Titanic. It proceeds in a logical progression chapterby chapter beginning with the birth of the idea for the three giantliners, through the building of Titanic, the crew, the voyage, the disaster and the aftermath.Along the way the author touches upon almost every aspect of the Titanic story. I did not agree with all his conclusions, but they are all presented in a reasonable, logical and readable fashion. Meredith has the ability to explain the many conflicting stories of the Titanic in a consistent, understandable style - a real gift.Here are just a few highlights from chapters that really impressed me. In one chapter the author gives a walking tour of the ship, deck by deck. It is the best, most detailed description of the ship I have ever read. He also has separate chapters on each of Titanic's ports of call, starting with Southampton, then Cherbourg, France and finally Queenstown, Ireland. He relates which passengers boarded the ship at each stop and includes examples from all classes, not just first class passengers as many other books have done. Again, it is the most detailed, informative description of what happened at each port I have read yet.Later in the story, Meredith describes who boarded which lifeboats, and when each lifeboat left the ship, as well as relevent events that happened on each of the boats after the Titanic had sunk. Not since Archibald Gracie's book from 1913 have I seen such a commendable job done in describing the story of the life boats, a particularly complicated and confusing piece of the Titanic history.Considering the sheer number of `facts' in the book (well over the nineteen hundred and twelve promised in the title), there are not too many mistakes. But he does make a few gaffs along the way....The errors really are few and far between though and do not seriously dampen my enthusiasm for this book. It is well researched, and very readable. I heartily recommend this book to anyone interested in the Titanic story. People reading about the Titanic for the first time will find this an excellent introduction, and even seasoned Titanic readers will find this to be well worth their time. END

I liked it.

The book was good for its logical order of listing the facts. Plus they are placed in chonological order, making it easy to find a single piece of information. The facts were consice, not drawn out with sentmentality or other things that may keep the facts 'hidden'. And that is what makes the book so likable.

If you're fascinated with Titanic, you must own this book!

Meredith has written an easy to access book full of fascinating facts about Titanic. Some are strange, some funny, some sad, some just bizarre. My whole family loved this book, my 14yr old son, my 12 yr old daughter, all found something different to talk about in this book. This is the kind of book series I want in our library, the kids can find information quickly and easily and I win all the Titanic trivia contests thanks to Mr. Mederdith! This book is fantastic. Buy It!
