I love this book!

I've already made four pairs of the Elegant and Easy Cable Mittens. They are quite easy (these were the first gloves/mittens I ever attempted to make and I had no problems). Two were for me, two have been for gifts. I also made the hat and mitten Christmas tree ornaments and the Cross Stitch Scarf. The instructions are good with one noted exception (and there may be an errata on-line by now). The pattern for the Elegant and Easy Cable Mittens omits the instruction to place a second marker when you start working the thumb gusset. I figured it out quickly on the first shot (before I even got past the point where the instruction should have been) so it's not a big deal, it's just something to be aware of (as it refers to the second marker later in the pattern.) There are about 98 other patterns in this book that I want to do. It's probably my current favorite knitting book.

One skein wonders

I am enjoying the book. It is a great way to use up all those left over skeins. So far I have made the shrug-- 2 of them in fact. They knit up very quickly. I have made the slippers-- okay but not my favorite. I am currently making the blanket buddy-- how cute. I still have plenty of left overs to keep knitting so I intend to make many, many more objects. Mostly they are quick so for anyone who wants quick gratification these are wonderful. The directions are clear and all the abbreviations are close at hand-- in the same pattern area-- so for those who can't remember one or if it is new you don't have to search all over for the abbreviation. I would recommend the book highly.

Take- along knitting

My shelf of small-project books gets a lot of action, but who can resist a new knitting book? I leafed through a friend's copy of 101 Designer One-Skein Wonders and decided I had to have my own copy. All the projects are displayed in color photos at the front of the book rather than with the patterns, a feast for the eyes and the imagination; I like browsing the projects all together. This is a familiar look from Storey Publishing and it helps to keep the price very reasonable. The patterns are laid out clearly and with a lot of detail, possibly more detail than an experienced knitter wants but excellent for the less experienced. Nowadays, however, most knitters prefer to see charted patterns and it would be great to see charts in future One-Skein Wonders editions. Yarns are specified but it will be easy enough to find projects for my precious skeins. Given that you can only do so much with a single skein, there is a surprising variety here. I have several projects tagged for my "take-along knitting." A few that caught my eye are the alpaca hand warmers, a mini-purse, the lace beanie, and Kat's Hat. I'm not sure which baby sweater to knit first, Blue Wave or Feather and Fan. There's a very pretty Three Season Lace Vest that looks wonderful. As for Elizabeth's Perfect Hat, what's more beautiful than Noro Silk Garden? but it would be great in other variegated worsteds as well. I'm delighted with this book and look forward to reducing my stash. Or ... maybe ... some yarn shopping?

Another Gem!

I waited and waited for this one, having love, love, loved the original. These are by far the best books to wind down your stash. I highly recommend this one for those individuals who just can't resist treating themselves to a single skein at their LYS.
