The Truth Hurts

Humorous, clever, insightful, painful at times, it's a valuable commentary from the kid from the Bronx.

An Important Read for Every American.

No matter what your politics are, you need to read this book. (And before you liberal Democrats turn up your nose let me remind you that Goldberg himself is a Democrat who has never voted for a Republican.) Goldberg is one of the last truly moral, decent people in this country. In this easy, quick read he exposes the smut pushers, flim-flam artists, phonies and crooks for who and what they really are. Some of whom would have us believe that they are socially-conscious nobles.

Entertaining and insightful

I enjoyed Goldberg's "Bias" so when I saw this was in paperback (I'm a cheapskate) I decided pick it up. I found this book entertaining and insightful. There are some great laugh-out-loud moments and many poignant moments. It's not a dogmatic hit-list of people Goldberg disagrees with but rather a catalogue of grievances. Though I wouldn't agree 100% with his list, I do agree with why those placed on the list are there. I know that many criticize Goldberg because The List's vast majority lean left. Goldberg is by no means saying liberals are the only ones screwing up America. But right here, right now, a group of them are doing more damage than others. Reading the reasons someone is on The List and not just the name and bio unfolds a clear argument as to why the liberals are screwing up America faster than the conservatives. Perhaps if this were the top 500 there would be a lot more conservatives on The List. Goldberg is fair and honest enough to say it like it is. I did find it rather ironic that the book ends with a plea for a little more civility. This book is hardly a vehicle for that. But then, and maybe this is the childishness in me, I'm not so sure I want to be civil with those who have spewed such visceral hatred my direction since the day I discovered I was a conservative.

Great book.

This is a great book and hits it right on the money. This is a social commentary book that every person should be reading. I am a police officer in a large urban city and have been seeing the decline of morals, ethics, and society in general for years now. And when I read this book it is dead on. However, no liberal will ever read this book because it will force them to look at themselves criticaly. Just like the author, I too was a liberal back in my college days and when in graduate school. But, many years ago I saw how the real world works and that liberals are always making excuses for everyone and are destroying the moral fiber of this country. Thanks for a great read Mr. Goldberg!

Goldberg is a straight shooter

Bernard Goldberg is a politically liberal, well-respected, highly honored journalist, who has made a career out of asking thoughtful questions and avoiding personal bias in his reporting. Naturally, such a temperment was bound to get him in trouble with his bosses at CBS. This trouble led Goldberg on a path of asking more questions, which led to his writing two powerfully insightful books, BIAS and ARROGANCE, which are must-reading for thinking people on both sides of the political debate. Now, Goldberg has written the provocatively-titled 100 PEOPLE WHO ARE SCREWING UP AMERICA. Though the title may seem a bit antagonistic, the content of the book remains thoughtful, factual, and cut-to-the-chase clear. The serious prose is leavened a bit by Goldberg's dry wit and by the fact that he is one superb writer. A book like this is bound to make some angry, but hopefully it will provoke some much-needed discussion. You may ask, "How can a clown like Al Franken truly be screwing up a whole country?" But Goldberg actually has a clear rationale for saying what he says. Goldberg's recent appearance on TV's Jon Stewart Daily Show--where he attempted to discuss the decline of civility in American society--only bolsters Goldberg's arguments in this book. Stewart was so boorish, crude, unfunny, and ill-informed that it simply proved Goldberg's point. So, in short, the liberals who would screech and rant about this book (most of whom haven't bothered actually reading it) would be better served by taking a breath and actually listening to what one of their liberal brethren is saying.
