This board book combines simple counting with Carle's unusual illustrations of animals. Early learners will find the whimsical pictures appealing as they learn the beginning rudiments of numbers and counting. - Midwest Book Review
My 3 year old likes this book as part of her at home preschool curriculum. It only counts up to ten, but I thought we'd try it just to add something to our usual math books. We don't just read straight through though, we interact with each other and the book by discussing as we go along. Today was the first time we read it & she had me read it twice. I would recommend it for anyone who likes Eric Carle's artistic style and is looking for a simple counting book for a young child.

Teach your children how to "count 1,2.3" while using common animals found at your local zoo. The pictures are very creative and will help the listener have fun grasping the basic numbers 1 through 10.
My daughter has learned her numbers
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 24 years ago
My 15-month old daughter has learned some of her numbers withthis book. It is her favorite -- the numbers are large and clear, and the graphics are attractive without being too busy or distracting. I have checked this book out at the library so many times that it is time to buy it! Since there are no words, this is an ideal book for parents to flex their creativity and act out animal sounds or motions.

An important book in the counting genre because it demonstrates the concept of zero to young children.
