by Youjung Lee At first glance Moolchi is just another unassuming boy whose greatest talent is running away from bullies. Then one day, Moolchi's absentee father sends him a most unusual gift - a stunningly-proportioned 'girl' who calls herself 'Six' and mumbles about having a 'prime directive.' This strange creature quickly turns the boy's life upside-down, violently disposing of anybody who gets in his or her way. While ominous storm clouds gather on the horizon, Moolchi remains blissfully unaware of the cute hall monitor who harbors a crush on him or the intentions of this mysterious femme fatale.
Zero/Six is a Korean Manhwa by Youjung Lee combining action, comedy, and even a little bit of drama. Moolchi is a bit of a high school nerd...one of those poor souls who finds himself constantly picked on and abused at school. Moolchi does his best to laugh along with his tormentors but deep down you know that he is hurting both mentally physically. But the abuse not only comes from his fellow students, but even some of his teachers, including one crazy teacher who looks...and acts...just like Hitler. Then one day a large package arrives for Moolchi. Inside is a girl...a life-size doll, or so Moolchi believes, with lifelike hair, teeth and skin. But this is no dummy. While examining the gift with his friend, the girl springs to life and attacks Moolchi's pal. They soon learn that this creature is an android sent to Moolchi by his estranged father. Its name is number six, Jong E. Her prime directive is to protect unit "zero"...namely Moolchi! But the gift starts to become more than Moolchi bargained for as Jong E follows Moolchi to school and later dispatches a gang of bullies in abrupt and violent fashion, much to Moolchi's horror who is against violence. But whatever he does, he cannot seem to shake the android for long...even when he takes a bath and is joined by the gorgeous, dark-haired machine! But why did the father send this to Moolchi? Was it just to protect him from schoolyard bullies or is there a more sinister threat? I quite enjoyed Zero/Six. The art was very good and Jong E is quite beautiful. It's somewhat hard to have sympathy for Moolchi as he becomes quite abusive to Jong E when he tries to get her to stop following him. After all she's just following her programming. It will be interesting to see where the story evolves from here. Reviewed by Tim Janson
I love this series

I love this series so far. Primarily, the story is an angst-filled coming-of-age drama for the teenage hero Moolchi Ga as he strives to avoid bullies and win the heart of his crush Khangee. However, don't be fooled into believing this is a simple high school story. "0/6" successfully touches upon several genres including: action, mystery, thriller, sci-fi and comedy. The writer is highly inventive with characters and gets a surprising amount of mileage from normal, everyday settings. Almost every scene contains some kind of little surprise. If you're in the market for Asian graphic novels, I highly recommend this warm, funny, heartfelt, suspenseful and well thought-out story.

Wow! I bought this book last week at a comic book store and just loved it! I don't normally by sci-fi books but the plotline on the back cover caught my eyes and of course the sexy girl on the front didn't hurt either. The story is about a high school boy who gets bullied around all the time. But one day Zero (the girl on the cover) is delivered to the clueless boy's home and completely changes his life. So far, we know that Zero is an automaton (a robot that is more delicately made than cyborgs) who comes to protect the boy, but are not told from what. The story is very absorbing and convincing especially because the author's idea of automaton is based on an actual mathematician's concept of automaton. All in all, this is probably the best sci-fi I read this year and I look forward to the next volume.
female power!

I had an android like 0/6 once...oh no wait, that was just a dream. Sorry. An empowered female as the central character? With a bathtub scene too? Beautiful. I suggest she strike out on her own in the upcoming chapters. The boy hasn't earned her devotion, in my opinion. And his schoolgirl friend is infinitely more right for him. 0/6 could join the beach volleyball circuit, or fight global warming, or be a lobbyist for nudist's rights. Or maybe all three. I'm holding back one star just in a nod to this storyline's potential.
