Teachers are some of the most dedicated, hard-working, sincere professionals on the planet. At ThriftBooks, we applaud and pay tribute to them every day, especially during Teacher Appreciation Week.
For generations, educators worldwide have opened doorways for children that would otherwise have remained closed. They help their students succeed in their academic work, and have an enormous impact on their lives outside the classroom as well.
Around the world, educators are celebrated at various times throughout the year for their dedication, their selflessness, their love of teaching, and the impact they make in the lives of their students. During this special week, join ThriftBooks as we take a look at the different ways in which teachers are celebrated around the world.
Every year, on the first Friday in September, all schools in Singapore are closed for the entire day to celebrate Teachers' Day. Official celebrations focusing on the value and honor of all educators take place the day prior to Teacher's Day, as well.
In India, Teachers' Day is September 5 each year. This particular date was chosen because it is also the birthday of the country's former president, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. The former president was an educator himself.
On September 5, older students have the responsibility of teaching younger pupils as an act of appreciation for their teachers. School remains in session, and many activities take place within educational institutions.
January 16 of each year is designated as Teachers' Day in Thailand. This date was adopted as Teachers' Day by a government resolution back on November 21, 1956, and the very first Teachers' Day was celebrated in 1957.
Schools are closed for the day in observance and appreciation of educators. Across the country, flowers, gifts, and awards are presented to educators of all tenures, grade levels, and subjects.
Czech Republic celebrates educators every year on March 28. Educators of all kinds receive various types of awards throughout the day across the country for their dedication and hard work.
In China, educators of all types, ages, tenures, and subjects are honored every year on September 10.
A special theme is chosen each year by the Ministry of Education, and students give their educators homemade gifts to show appreciation for the dedication and hard work their teachers put forth. The day is traditionally a day when alumni visit their former schools, as well.
November 24 is a day set aside for honoring educators in the country of Turkey. In Turkey, the profession of teaching is regarded as an elite profession and is considered sacred and honorable.
Educators are honored and celebrated each year on May 2 in Iran. On this day, Teachers' Day commemorates the assassination of an Iranian professor named Ayatollah Morteza Motahhari.
Motahhari was not only a professor but also a writer and teacher who died on May 2, 1980. On May 2 each year, students give flowers to educators to honor those in a profession that is considered sacred.
Few lives have not been touched by a teacher of some kind. The impact that teachers around the world have on children can be life-changing.
While millions of teachers across hundreds of countries have different methods, skills, and values, the top teachers can influence children to be their best selves and bring others along with them as they grow.
