Celebrity Memoirs

Read up on the lives of stars
Secret Invasion, Kang the Conqueror, Dark Avengers...oh my! Find out the whole story before it's on screen

The book is always better. You've probably heard this adage your entire life. It's still true. And while we may all thrill to see the special effects, no amount of big-budget CGI can compare with your own imagination.

In addition, reading the book first gives you the following advantages:

  • You get more character detail and point of view from a book.
  • You're free to envision the protagonists any way you want.
  • The author's original message or moral comes through more clearly.
  • More of the author's unique voice is evident in descriptions, backstory, and other literary devices that get cut from screenplays.

Many outstanding books have been turned into movies or a television series, and even more will be making their way to your theater or TV soon. Get your copies from Thriftbooks so you will be ready.

Classic Book to Movie & TV Adaptations

Classic literature is defined by the novels that resonate across generations, with memorable characters, unforgettable story-telling, and universal appeal. It’s no wonder that classis books are a common inspiration for movies and TV shows. Stories like The Great Gatsby, Little Women, and Pride and Prejudice have been adapted for film and television several times over.

Romance Book to Movie & TV Adaptations

Romance, love, and relationships are other categories in which books excel. Different narrations and points of view allow us to enter the characters' heads and know how they really feel. Nicholas Sparks’ classics like The Notebook and A Walk To Remember became unforgettable films. Bridgerton, based on the novels by Julia Quinn has become one of the most popular shows on Netflix.

Thriller Book to Movie & TV Adaptations

Who doesn't love a little suspense or a nice psychological thriller? Books excel at ratcheting up the tension and misdirecting the reader as the plot twists and turns. Some of the most popular thriller and horror movies come from the works of Stephen King, like The Shining, It, and Carrie.

Fantasy Book to Movie & TV Adaptations

Some of the most beloved film and television series are adapted from sci-fi and fantasy books. From Lord of the Rings to Harry Potter, the expansive worlds created in fantasy novels have paved the way for Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters.

Not just on the big screen- more and more fantasy books are being adapted into television shows. HBO’s smash hit Game of Thrones is based on George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series. Gamers may have recognized Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s The Witcher series from the popular video game franchise, but both are based on The Witcher series by Andrzej Sapkowski.
