Born in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) while it was still a British colony, Stephanie Laurens moved as a child to Australia. Having achieved a Ph.D. in biochemistry in Melbourne, she moved with her husband to Great Britain where she worked as a cancer research scientist. She later returned to Melbourne, where she now lives, to continue her research. When she found herself bereft of Regency romances to read, she decided to write one herself. When that first book was published, Laurens left behind her science career and became a full-time writer, publishing fifty historical romances, including twenty-nine New York Times bestsellers. Laurens received the Romance Writers of America RITA Award for Best Romance Novella.
