Sandra Cisneros is the author of several highly regarded books, including The House on Mango Street and Caramelo. She has also written poetry and short stories. Her books have been translated into more than twenty languages and published internationally. Born in Chicago in 1954, Cisneros studied at Loyola University of Chicago where she earned a B.A. in English. She received an M.F.A. in creative writing from the University of Iowa. She has been honored with many awards, including a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship and two National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships. Cisneros has been a creative writing teacher, artist-in-residence, arts administrator, a college recruiter, an arts administrator, and as a visiting writer at a number of universities.
