Raymond E. Feist was born Raymond Elias Gonzales III in Los Angeles, California in 1945. His last name was changed to his stepfather's when his mother remarried. Raised in Southern California, he earned a B.A. in communication arts with honors from the University of California, San Diego. Feist published his first novel two years after graduation. The majority of his bestselling works are fantasy novels and short stories within The Riftwar Cycle, including Magician and Silverthorn. Feist co-authored The Empire Trilogy with Janny Wurts. Feist has also published several other novels and short stories. He lives in San Diego.
