Bestselling fantasy author and game creator Margaret Weis was born in 1948, in Independence, Missouri. She attended the University of Missouri, Columbia, where she graduated in 1970, with a Bachelor of Arts, having majored in creative writing and literature. Weis joined a small publishing company in Independence, the start of a lengthy career in publishing. She wrote both an adventure novel and non-fiction books for children. While working at TSR in the book department, she joined forces with Tracy Hickman to write Dragons of Autumn Twilight and the rest of the Dragonlance trilogy. They also produced other works, including the Darksword trilogy and the seven-book Deathgate Cycle. Weis has also written novels on her own and published fiction-based games. Highly influential in adventure gaming, she was inducted into the Origins Hall of Fame. Weis lives in southern Wisconsin.
