A Real Nail-Biter-Psychological Thriller!

This is my first novel by Joy Fielding, but it will not be my last! This was a real nail-biter, steeped in mystery and suspense. A diabolical plot is hatched. Casey is very severely injured, to the point of almost death, but wakes up from a coma not being able to see or feel or move---but she can hear! Imagine that. Doctors, nurses, family members, and friends, all talking unguarded about you or any other mundane thing, and you can hear and react, only its all internal. Nobody knows you can hear and understand. The reader travels this journey with Casey, trapped in her own body, finding out that the hit-and-run accident really might have been a murder. Imagine finding out who hatched the diabolical plan to murder her and frantically trying to find a way to save yourself from the would-be-murderer coming to finish the job--for good. It doesn't get much better than this. The pace was great with nerve-wracking, nail-biting psychological suspense. I was absolutely riveted and could not put the book down. Some things I figured out on my own, but I would not say the book was predictable by any means. Try this book, you will love the journey!

Terrific Thriller that Kept Me Up till Midnight-Thirty

I started this book on a lazy Saturday morning and read the day away and late into the night, finishing around midnight-thirty. And then I lay awake, looking at the dark ceiling, trying to imagine what it would be like to be in a coma and being able to hear everything that's going on around you, but not being able to do anything about it. You'd feel so vulnerable. And that's what happens to Casey Marshal. She's in an accident and winds up like that. However, while listening to everything that's going on around her she finds out that someone had tried to kill her, but she doesn't know who. Could it have been her sister Drew, who resents Casey for controlling her inheritance? Could it have been her friend Janine, who seems to resent Casey for pulling out of their business partnership and forming her own very successful company? Or could it have been her loving husband who cheats at golf? Could that be the only cheating he's been doing? Does he want her money? There are plenty of good suspects here and I was guessing, changing my mind, then guessing again throughout the book. This is a terrific mystery thriller, one I couldn't put down, one I think will keep you up burning the midnight oil.

Read in one sitting!

Lying in a hospital bed after a serious hit-and-run 'accident', Casey appears to be in a coma. In fact, while she cannot see, move, or communicate in any way, Casey is fully conscious and can hear all that is going on around her. I have no idea if this premise is indeed medically possible, but it sure does make a great story! Casey finds out a lot of things she never knew about her family and friends, lying there and listening to their idle conversation in her hospital room...and one of the things she discovers is that the 'accident' that put her in this condition may have been nothing of the kind. Does one of these people want her dead? If so, why? I read it in one sitting! Well, I didn't sit the entire time, and at one point I was cooking dinner with my nose still stuck in this book!!! It's a great read, highly recommended.
