Everyone knows about The Hobbit and Charlotte's Web - which I love as well - but here are 5 treasures from the juv. lit. category that you may not know. When did you fall in love with reading? For me, it was while reading these books as a boy and teenager. That was when I realized the difference between simply reading and actually being a 'Reader'. Like a well-designed play list these can be read together, but don't need to be. Some are lighter and funny (Half Magic) others are poignant and touching (House of Sixty Fathers). Each has passed my personal test and are cherished stories, read many times personally and now passed down and read-aloud to my children. Well written and satisfying these are the kinds of books you will keep and read again. They are all Newberry Award winners or honorees. From English castles of the 1500’s to the forests of upstate New York to new worlds in a far-away future you'll get a little bit of everything and rediscover why we read.
